Filing For Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Before filing bankruptcy, you will need to complete a bankruptcy means test to determine if you qualify to file under Chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code. If you do qualify, the next step is to file a petition for bankruptcy with the court. Failure to report all sources of income and assets, including property and retirement accounts, may result in your case being dismissed or charges of fraud. The attorneys at Godbey Law will work with you to file this petition accurately.
If your petition is accepted, the court will appoint a trustee to liquidate your assets and pay off creditors. Asset liquidation rids you of most unsecured debt, such as credit card debt and some loans. Taxes, mortgage payments and court ordered support cannot be dismissed.
Guiding You Through The Process
Our attorneys will work with you throughout the bankruptcy process, guiding you through the steps and answering any questions you may have. We will prepare you for each stage. Most importantly, we will be your support during this difficult, and yet, relieving time.
With the help of Godbey Law, you can come back from financial difficulties and get a fresh start on life.
